A couple of log studies with my model Maumae.
A pod of white pelicans visited Bainbridge Island this weekend, and I was lucky enough to capture this moment.
I actually cried when I uploaded the photos into Lightroom and finally saw what I had gotten. My heart was so full of gratitude, not only for the chance to witness something so beautiful and rare, but also for being able to preserve it in a photograph.

I’ve been trying to get this image for a few years now. There have been a lot of “almost” and “so close” moments, but this week it finally came together.
These images show my progression along the way, and how timing, scale, and conditions all have to line up for just a few seconds.
